Le pharmacien photographe ; The photograph pharmacist

Roger BESSE (1907-1968) from Laissac, created a new pharmacy in Pierrefort in 1935. Initially located here, on the site of the bakery, he later moved it to its current position, a few meters further up along Avenue Georges Pompidou. General councillor and the mayor of Pierrefort from 1965 to 1968, he was very involved in the life of the village.

Roger BESSE was a keen photographer, with a passion for super 8 and the new technologies that went with it, and documented the life of the town from the 1950s to the 1960s, a pivotal period between tradition and modernity. He made dozens of films and hundreds of photos documenting the life of Pierrefort's inhabitants : weddins, religious processions, patronal celebrations, children's games, work in the fields...His pharmacy was his laboratory, where he developped his black and white photos and displayed them in his shopwindow. He also sold photographic films and the sign "FILM LUMIERE" can still be seen on the front of the current pharmacy. A film-concert entitled "L'oeil du pharmacien" was created in 2004, based upon the short films by Roger BESSE.

Roger Besse (1907 – 1968) stammt aus dem Dorf Laissac und studierte Pharmazie. Er eröffnete 1935 eine Apotheke in Pierrefort, die sich am Brunnenplatz befand (heute Bäckerei). Später verlegte er sie an ihre heutige Stelle, Avenue Georges Pompidou.

Er war zuerst Stadtrat und dann Bürgermeister von Pierrefort (1965 – 1968) und prägte dadurch auch das Leben der Stadt. Als passionierter Fotograf, Super-8-Filmer und Freund aller neuen Filmtechnologien hat Roger Besse das Leben in und um Pierrefort in den 50/60er-Jahren, einer Zeit zwischen Tradition und beginnender Modernität, dokumentiert und unsterblich gemacht.

Er drehte insgesamt 10 Filme und machte über hundert Klischees, wobei er Hochzeiten aufnahm, religiöse Prozessionen, Patronatsfeste, Taufen, Arbeiten auf dem Feld…

Die Apotheke war sein Labor, wo er seine Klischees in schwarzweiss entwickelte und in seiner Auslage ausstellte. Über der Apotheke kann man heute immer noch das Werbeschild “Film Lumière” sehen.

Von Künstlern wurde 2004 in Pierrefort ein Kino-Konzert mit Filmszenen von Roger Besse kreiert und aufgeführt: “L’Oeil du pharmacien” (Der Blick des Apothekers).
