The kneeling mourner
In Pierrefort, the war memorial represents a peasant woman from Auvergne. She is meditating in honour to dead soldiers. She is wearing clogs. This statue which was sculpted by Joseph GRANDET is decorated with a bronze sword and medallions.
The monument was inaugurated on Sunday, October 2nd 1927. On that date, every ball was forbidden in respect to « poilus » Dead for France.
Peaceful monuments are rare. That’s why ours was registered « Historical Monument » in 2019.
